‘Funmi Adewole Elliott

‘Funmi Adewole Elliott is an NCACE Associate whose focus is the Independent Researchers Network.

She is an independent scholar and a performer. Her research interests and areas of practice encompass practitioner-research, Dance as a profession, Creative Health, African cultural production, Storytelling theatre and arts practice in multi-racial and intercultural settings. She produces projects through FAE Studios/Enact Arts CIC.

After working in the media in Nigeria for several years, ‘Funmi moved from Nigeria to Britain in 1994. She toured for about ten years with African dance drama and Physical theatre companies whilst working as an arts consultant and as a dance advocate writing about and leading projects supporting Black dance. In 2019, she was awarded a life-time achievement award by One Dance UK, the UK National body for Dance for contributions to Dance of the African Diaspora in the UK. She lectured at De Montfort University, Leicester, for eight years before returning to full-time independent practice in 2025. She recently presented her solo storytelling show at the Lagos Fringe 2025. 

She holds a B.A in Languagesan M.A in Postcolonial Studies, a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and PhD in Dance studies.
